Edible Dog Chews For German Shepherds

When it comes to welcoming a new dog into the home, one of the most common questions that we get is, “What toys should I get them?”. The type of toy that you select can depend on the dog and what you’re looking to accomplish with the toy. If you’re looking to give your pup something to entertain them while you’re winding down for the day, then a chew would be a great option. There are many different types of chews, and they can be used in a variety of manners. These items have the versatility to entertain a dog or a new puppy, help the teething processes, dental hygiene, and can even act as a nightly reward. A few products that Canine Extreme like to use are the Whimzees and Yak Chews.

Edible chews have a few benefits that make them an excellent go-to chew for your furry friend. One of the main advantages of an edible chew is that some are designed to help clean and freshen breath like the Whimzee-Brushzees. The Whimzee-Brushzees are made with ridges and grooves to help remove tartar and plaque, all while cleaning the teeth and freshening breath! Whimzee-Brushzees are a natural, gluten-free, and vegetarian way to brush daily that you and your pup will enjoy. When your dog is old enough, it’s easy to incorporate it into a nightly reward for your furry friend. While giving your pup a nice reward is always a good thing, it’s best to follow the daily chew quantity recommended on the bag. To see more on Whimzees Click here!

We have all heard of a dog that goes through toys quicker than others. If your dog is one that needs something a bit tougher, we recommend a Yak chew. A Yak chew is an easily digestible edible chew that is a bit harder than your standard chew. Yak chews are packed with omega-3 fatty acids and are rich in fiber, which can help with digestive health and provide energy to strengthen the immune system in your dog. While a Yak chew can be a pleasant chew on its own, we find that it can be improved with the combination of a toy. To achieve this, Canine Extreme likes to utilize the Jughead /BlockHead and Yak chew combination. Just by inserting the Yak chew into the Jughead/Blockhead will slow your dog down from getting through the chew too quickly, while adding a bit of fun. I’ve included a link to the Jughead, Blockhead and Yak insert below:

Please remember that every dog is different; while one toy may be suitable for one dog, it may not be for another. We advise everyone to keep an eye on their dog when they are playing with a new toy or have a new chew. This will allow you to observe how they interact with the toy to see if it’s a good fit for your dog. Feel free to experiment with chews to see which one works out best for you and your dog!
